ESCAPE TO ST BARTHS

Posted on

There is nothing like a winter escape to a sunny warm idle island in the Caribbean, and nowhere is better than St Barths!

St Barths is the most glamorous of all the Caribbean Islands. Visitors fly in via private planes landing on the island’s tiny beach airport. Celebrities sail in on yachts docked at Gustavia’s port. Beautiful people stroll and shop the small Capital’s streets, dine on fine French cuisine in one of the many fashionable restaurants, have cocktails at sunset overlooking the glistening turquoise sea after basking all day in the sun, swimming, surfing diving or just lounging!

As a very good excuse to escape the cold harsh New York winter, we decided to shoot our Resort 2020 collection in St Barths!

The inspiration for the Resort collection is unapologetically 70’s jet-set glamour chic, we created original prints in fine silks and cottons, and designed dramatic kaftans in gorgeous tropical floral, Batik and bold abstract animal prints. Travels and ethnic inspired dresses are embellished with handmade embroideries. The super glamorous St Barths was the perfect backdrop for our creations.

The island epitomizes our brand, simple yet stylish, remote and secluded, yet vibrant fun and exciting with great energy.

This Thanksgiving vacation we arrived at St Barths a few days before the shoot, on Thanksgiving Day At 6:30AM. I was picked up by Camillia (our photographer) in her blue Jeep. We went to Idalmi St Barths salon and meet with Idalmi herself - the fabulous hair and makeup artist and our gorgeous and friendly model Orane. Camillia explained that you start early on the island as sunset is around 5:30PM.

We grabbed coffee and croissants in the bakery while hair and make-up was being done, we started to shoot at St Jean Beach - my personal favorite beach on the island. Our changing room was my hotel room on Pearl Beach hotel - perfectly located! We started to shoot swimwear and kaftans then moved down the beach changing outfits and continue the shoot in front of the Iconic Eden Rock hotel and at the sand bar restaurant. The hotel just re-opened after a 2 year renovation following the hurricane with it’s impressive decor by owner Mrs Matthews (mother in law to Pippa Middleton).

We continued shooting around the island at New York speed. In the afternoon we shot at Gustavia port and Bonito restaurant for their spectacular sunset and views of the port and bay. And then, the sunset crept in. The shoot was successfully done. We had a busy creative yet tiring and exciting day. The team swore to stay friends forever.

A few days later we had to leave paradise and go back to reality. All we have to remember this incredible day by are these fabulous photos!

Tradewinds Pilatus airplane would take us back - it's a sweet way to leave... I cannot wait to come back to paradise!

Tips for St Barths:

Stay:
Pearl beach hotel - St Barths
Eden Rock - St Barths

Eat:
Bonito - St Barths. Unique French-Peruvian cuisine with great view over Gustavia Harbour - I'm obsessed with PULPO ANTICUCHERO and the CRISPY TUNA CEVICHE.
L'Isola. For the best Italian food ever, Love the lobster pasta!
Isolletta. For amazing roman style pizza by the yards.

Sunset Cocktails:
Sand Bar - at Eden Rock.
Shellona St Barth - at Shell Beach. For the most spectacular sunset.
Bonito - St Barths. Try the ‘’Sex in the bath tub’’ cocktail or ‘Lychee Loves Coco’!
